NewsNotes

NewsNotes is a newsletter published near the beginning of every month by Frank McCann, our Peace through Justice Facilitator, for an audience who is interested in justice and peace issues that are close to the heart of the CSJP Congregation. NewsNotes is not intended to be a full discussion of issues but a brief call to attention to pressing issues of concern that offer residents of the U.S. or the U.K. an opportunity to act for peace and justice.

In his Peace Day Message for Jan 1, 2016, Pope Francis warns about being well-informed about the crises in our world without involvement or compassion:

Some people are well-informed; they listen to the radio, read the newspapers or watch television, but they do so mechanically and without engagement. They are vaguely aware of the tragedies afflicting humanity, but they have no sense of involvement or compassion.

The responses suggested in NewsNotes are intended to help get our readers personally involved in the issues of concern to them.

We hope NewsNotes will not simply add to the glut of information, and instead encourage and enable simple actions that will make a difference and connect our readers with the sufferings of people in our global neighborhood. There is always something we can do, even as individuals, to make this world a better place, and to speak peace, especially when the language of hate seduces the media.
