Ann Taylor, CSJP (1931-2022)

Ann Marie Taylor was born on December 2, 1931, in Brooklyn, New York, the only child of Charles Howard and Mildred Theresa (Bonnert) Taylor.

Sister Ann began teaching in various Catholic Schools in New Jersey before earning her nursing degree at Holy Name Hospital Nursing School in Teaneck, New Jersey, in 1959. She later earned a bachelor’s degree in Nursing at the California State College in Los Angeles and her master’s degree in health administration at St. Louis University, Missouri.

Sister Ann served as a Nursing Supervisor at Phillips Memorial Hospital in Bukidnon Province, Philippines; the Postulant Director at the San Jose House of Studies in Orange, California; Staff Nurse and Director of Personnel at Holy Name Hospital, Teaneck; and Vice President of Professional Services at St. James Hospital in Newark, New Jersey.

In 1983, Sister Ann served as the Province Leader for St. Joseph Province in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. She became the Executive Director of the York Street Project in Jersey City, New Jersey, in 1988. From 1997 to 2007, she served as Administrator of St. Joseph’s Home for the Blind in Jersey City. She then served as Congregation Archivist before retiring at St. Michael Villa in 2016.

Sister Ann will be remembered for her wisdom, wit and wonderful can-do attitude that she brought to all her various ministries. During her seventy-plus years as a Sister of St. Joseph of Peace, she generously shared her many gifts in the service of her loving God, the community and the wider world.

A combined wake service and Liturgy of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at St. Michael Villa in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. Sister Ann was buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, New Jersey.

Sister Ann is survived by her cousin Joyce Layne and her second cousin John Taylor.
