2023 Jubilees in the East

On May 6 the Eastern region of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace gathered in the auditorium of the Sister Claire Tynan School of Nursing to celebrate the jubilees of six of their members: Sisters Agnes Fox (80 yrs.), Clare McNerney (70 yrs.), and (60-years) Luisa Raven, Norah Clarke, Susan Whitsell and Lucy Clarke. Those present for the Jubilee liturgy could never have doubted that the theme was creation! Processing into the room along with the jubilarians were over 25 family and friends each carrying a mobile representing various members of God’s creation while singing “All creatures of the sea and earth, Praise God with joyful song and mirth. Alleluia! Alleluia!”

The theme continued throughout the liturgy as we listened to an excerpt of one of our documents: “We experience a call to live our stance of contemplative, nonviolent peacemaking in regard to creation.” and later prayed in the Prayer of the Faithful, “For the infinite gifts of creation: the beautiful earth, our home; the twinkling stars and shining planets; the warm sun and glowing moon; the mossy green sweetness of spring; the rich black soil; the waters which sustain us; the abundance of life. That we recognize the fragility of all these, and care for creation as is our responsibility.”

The jubilarians are grateful to all who came to celebrate and to Lucy Clarke, CSJP who created our jubilee theme celebrating creation.
