Haiti

Our mission presence in Haiti began in 2009 as a special project to mark the 125th anniversary of the founding of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace. The mission was officially launched October 2009 with the arrival of Sisters Maureen Boggins, Ann Crawley and Marilee Murphy at Hôpital Sacré Coeur (Sacred Heart Hospital) in Milot, Haiti. The Sisters' presence was requested by the CRUDEM Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit founded in 1995 to provide financial, volunteer and medical resources to Hôpital Sacré Coeur. Since its acquisition by Holy Name Medical Center in 2012, the CRUDEM Foundation functions under the Holy Name umbrella of exceptional healthcare facilities and programs. It has also been renamed Haiti Health Promise of HolyName.

Sister Ann Crawley's outreach program provides food, shelter, and education. To date, 70 homes have been built, providing shelter as well as employment in the community. Sister Maureen Boggins provides English as a Second Language training to hospital staff.
