PazSalud changes lives in El Salvador and PeaceHealth
Sister Eleanor Gilmore has long experience in El Salvador that includes work with Jesuit Refugee Services during the Civil War. Since 2000, she has directed the PazSalud program, sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace and PeaceHealth, an integrated healthcare system in the Pacific Northwest.
PazSalud brings volunteers - PeaceHealth staff, Sisters and Associates - to El Salvador as healthcare volunteers, primarily in two annual missions, a larger one offering general health checkups to a rural population, and a smaller mission providing cataract surgeries. The most recent medical mission is profiled here.
For an overview of the work of PazSalud, read this article from the March-April, 2008 issue of Health Progress.
