We are the Sisters and Associates of St. Joseph of Peace, Western Province and we occasionally have to fight for our cause of Peace and Justice.
Pioneers
In 1890 two Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace, Teresa and Stanislaus, made their
way by train from New Jersey to Bellingham, Washington, to start the town’s
first hospital. They begged in mines and lumber camps, and within a year had
raised enough money to build St. Joseph Hospital. These courageous women were
the pioneers of the Western Province of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace.
In her own voice....
Sister Susan Francois, a 2nd year novice with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace, blogs about life, justice and the CSJP community.
Today, we carry out their spirit, living our mission of peace through justice
as Sisters and Associates in Alaska, British Columbia, Washington, Oregon,
California, Nevada, El Salvador, and Guatemala. Our Province home is at St. Mary-on-the-Lake,
Bellevue, Washington, where
we also welcome visitors and retreatants.
The Congregation Office is in Washington, DC. There are two other Provinces:
one in the United Kingdom, and one on the East Coast of the U.S.
