Sisters and Associates Gather for Liturgy, Luncheon and Sale to Benefit Haiti.

Every year the sisters and associates from the eastern region of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace gather on the first Saturday in December to celebrate Advent and Christmas. This year, the gathering occurred on December 16 - one week later than usual due to the first snow storm of the season. Of course, this delay did not dampen the spirits of those who braved temperatures below 30 and another dusting of snow left from the night before!

We began assembled in the chapel area of Hudson Villa (the new name for the infirmary). Doris Mical, CSJP was the homilist. Doris gave us much to ponder: Advent is the time to remember that we are a pilgrim people. It is a time to reflect on our spiritual fitness for the journey that lies before us in our daily lives. "The journey is never done advises Pope Francis, "just as in each of our own lives, there is always a need to restart, to rise again, to recover a sense of the goal of one's own existence.” To download the entire homily, click here.

After the liturgy we proceeded to St. Peter’s Auditorium. There we were able to shop for articles made by a few of the sisters who donated 100% of the proceeds to Haiti where some of our sisters minister. Of course, no gathering is complete without a meal and we enjoyed a delicious one as well as wonderful conversation!

Thanks to Peter Pieroni for the photos.

"Life and prayer are intertwined, because the natural thing to do is to talk to God, to pray. Nothing is compartmentalized. "
