Sister Ellen Caldwell Is Celebrated on her 100th Birthday

Sister Ellen celebrated her hundredth birthday November 16th.  She was blessed with a beautiful Mass and birthday dinner at St. Mary-on-the-Lake. Three of her nieces traveled from New Jersey to celebrate with their aunt.

Sister Ellen grew up in County Cavan surrounded by the love of her family.  She has been a Sister of St. Joseph of Peace for over 80 years! Most of those 80 years were spent in our Healthcare ministry where Sister Ellen served as laboratory technician, librarian, food services director and many years as administrator.

She has been a part of  St. Mary's community since 2009. Sr. Ellen is a gentle presence in our community and a vital part of our mission ---as we say in our constitutions:

Our witness as women of peace continues beyond the time of active ministry.  Sisters incapacitated by illness or failing strength participate fully in our mission. Through their wisdom, suffering, prayer, and support they are a powerful presence within and beyond the congregation.

Just a few months ago Sister Mary Campion celebrated her 100th birthday in the UK. What a gift to have a centenarian in any family, but to have two is an abundance of riches. They are truly blessings to the CSJP family. We join in congratulating them and sending every good wish. We are grateful for their long lives and for their gracious presence with us.

"Life and prayer are intertwined, because the natural thing to do is to talk to God, to pray. Nothing is compartmentalized. "
