Clean Power & Climate Statement

March 31, 2017

Today the Leadership Team of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace (CSJP) issued a statement to President Trump, to be shared with other elected officials objecting to the President’s executive order overriding the Clean Power Plan that would have moved the U.S. towards meeting the goals set forth in the Paris Climate Agreement.

Our congregation has a long history of concern for the environment. In our Seeds of Peace: Care of Creation and Climate Change, Chapter Act of 2008, we committed ourselves “personally and communally to deepen our spirituality of peace regarding care of creation,” and to “identify and reduce our carbon footprint.”

The signing of this executive order does damage to the efforts that have already been made in achieving goals of keeping global warming to minimum levels as set forth in the Paris Climate agreement.
