Affirming the Church's Move to Nonviolence

Sr. Shelia Lemieux, CSJP recently wrote letters as Congregation Leader to Pope Francis, Cardinal Turkson and Cardinal Parolin affirming “An Appeal to the Catholic Church to Re-Commit to the Centrality of Gospel Nonviolence.” The Appeal was produced at the end of the April conference at the Vatican entitled Nonviolence and Just Peace. You can read the letter from Sr. Sheila to Pope Francis here. Asked why it was important to affirm the appeal, Sr. Sheila responded, “Because that is who we say we are.”

An appreciative reply to the letter was received from Cardinal Parolin writing on behalf of Pope Francis.

Affirming the Church's Move to Nonviolence

"The important thing is that we remain open to God as he reveals himself to us in the circumstances of life and do everything possible to bring the body of his Son to completion."
